Have insufficiently guarded governance features triggered slash storms? In the nascent AVS ecosystem, a full-blown "slash storm" directly triggered by a governance flaw has not yet been widely observed. However, the theoretical risk is severe. An insufficiently guarded feature, such as the ability to change a critical slashing parameter without a timelock, could allow a malicious actor or a buggy proposal to instantly redefine a slashable offense. If this new definition captures the behavior of a large portion of the current validator set, it could trigger a simultaneous, correlated slashing event—a "governance-induced slash storm." The absence of such events to date is likely due to the caution of early projects, not the absence of the risk.
