In 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried Pompeii in ash. Most people remember that much from school. What gets mentioned less is that, for years, the people who survived didnāt rebuild right away. Not just because the ash was deadly or the volcano could erupt again. It was because they didnāt want to feel safe and start over and plant grapes and raise babies and have dances in the town square only for it to all go to ash again.
