A paramilitary unit controlled directly by the president’s closest subordinates is terrorizing a city and state governed by the opposition. Citizens are protesting against government militias, documenting abuses, and filming uniformed officers.
When one of the protesters—a 37-year-old nurse—attempts to help a woman attacked by a masked member of the paramilitary squads, several men pounce on him. They use pepper spray, throw him to the ground, kick him, and manhandle him.
The protester had a legally owned firearm in a holster. One of the agents removes the weapon, and then the others shoot the man as he lies there from a distance of just a few dozen centimeters. Most of the shots were fired while the man lay motionless on the ground. He was the victim of a brutal, illegal execution.
If this were any country other than the USA, this is exactly how the global media would be writing about what happened today in Minneapolis.
