I've been in this space since 2010, but I'm not a jaded or pessimistic "multi-cycle" participant yet. I'm still here to see the original cypherpunk use cases gain universal traction: censorship-resistant digital cash, dark wallets, marketplaces, name services, identity systems, reputation systems, social media, file sharing, autonomous organizations, asset exchanges, insurance, prediction markets, mixnets, art, games, and more. It's too important to give up on. I've dedicated my life to building towards a decentralised net, and it's still the worthiest cause I can contribute to, in a world where trying to change the world through politics is largely fruitless. People like zooko have been around since the 1990s and are still building, so we have no excuse to be jaded and give up. We shouldn't underestimate the progress we've made since the cypherpunk movement in the 90s, where digital cash was just a dream - we stand on the shoulders of giants. But we still have a lot of work to do, so onwards!

I still think this is the biggest case for cryptocurrency: https://wtfhappenedin1971.com/ Ever since the world moved to fiat in 1971, saving up for a house or financial security with your fiat income alone became increasingly infeasible and required investing in assets. Memecoins are a natural consequence of this.
