When I first got into crypto, I was told L2s exist mainly because Ethereum fees were insane.
But things have changed, Ethereum fees dropped from an average of 72 gwei in 2024 to 1.9 gwei in Aug 2025.
Swaps that once cost $86, now ~$0.39.
NFT trades that cost $145, now ~$0.65.
So… if fees are this low, do we even need L2s? 🤔
The “fees only” narrative is actually a myth. L2s bring way more to the table: scalability, speed, and specialization.
🔹 Scalability
Ethereum handles 15–30 TPS. L2s run at 1,000–4,000 TPS. Huge gap.
🔹 Speed
Ethereum finality takes ~12–15 min. L2s confirm almost instantly, critical for trading, gaming, and real-time payments.
