Governance tokens remain valuable if they control real decision-making in high-usage protocols. For example, Curve and Uniswap governance impacts incentive distribution and treasury usage. Tokens with only symbolic voting rights, however, lose relevance. Value also depends on whether governance decisions capture fees or distribute revenue. Without financial incentives, governance becomes less attractive. In DeFi 2.0, merging governance with utility—staking or fee-sharing—helps tokens retain demand. Otherwise, many governance tokens risk fading away.
