When it comes to fiction, it is not always possible to distinguish a rich fantasy from the ravings of a madman. And in postwar America, the star of Sci-fi (and the favorite of conspiracy theorists) was, for example, a man with schizophrenia — and no one really objected, because his stories were interesting.
