I think increasingly we need to remember that happiness is a state and not a measure or destination.

I have always enjoyed the Buddhist principle of "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water". For me this means that once one achieves heightened realisation, nothing material has to change. The activity remains the same, it is just the perceived struggle that is removed.
