if you use WD-40 to lubricate stuff just know that it's not a great lubricant. it's more of a cleaner than anything, but its also 10 things if you need 1 thing in a pinch. If you want to oil something up at home, or something important then use something that is engineered to keep things lubed up for a long time without drying out and becoming sticky or leaving a film. this household oil from ace hardware is a champion for your door hinges and home appliances WD-40 isnt going to be a big mistake, but it's just not even near being the best choice for keeping something lubricated over time. WD-40 will dry faster than the proper oil, way faster, it will also leave a film you or the next-guy will have to deal with that. For some reason the Ace Oil is hard to find, and if you can't find any then Starrett is a little more specific to machinists, but its a similar product. Oil your tooling so it doesnt rust when its sitting around in your shop/garage/pantry. a single drop per application is really all it takes.
