i went for a hike in the woods
a hundred years ago it was a sod farm
35 years ago the old man living in a small shack would run out and shoot his gun in the air to get us snowmobiling off his property
some time ago he parked this tractor for the very last time
he donated the property to the forest preserve south of chicago
he was the one of 5 or so last generation land owners of a row of farmers in the area. he passed in the early 90s. the last of the old farmers passed in early 2000s.
neither of them wanted to sell to developers, 3 sold to churches, and 2 donated to the forest preserve just outside of Chicago
