I’m a new dad as of 3 weeks ago and recently learned that the “ssshhh” sound works to calm babies because it sounds like blood rushing into the uterus, the sound they’re most familiar with. Then I had the realization that the word ‘shush’ is an onomatopoeia for circulating uterine blood. And every time someone says sshh, or uses any sort of white noise machine, they’re recreating the environment of the womb. Kinda wild.

Me: relaxing after the past few months of installing new flooring, hanging new curtains, redoing the trim, painting the walls, repairing stucco, installing new fixtures, prepping the nursery, creating a mini closet to hang infant clothing, painting an accent wall, painting the moulding, landscaping the backyard, building new cupboards, an entertainment center, and shoe rack, and deep cleaning the entire house like 10 times. My wife, in hardcore nesting mode: You know what we need to do, DEEP CLEAN the vacuum. Didn’t know that was a thing, but sure. Is the nesting phase always like this? 😂

Our first child is due the 29th, any day now. Any unique or niche girl dad advice I probably haven’t heard yet? My neighbor gifted me the book “Strong fathers, strong daughters” by Megan Meeker, I teared up through 80% of it, and got a lot of good takeaways from it.
