Day 8/30 Until I Get Hired Moderator vs Community Manager: What’s the Difference? Many people use these roles interchangeably in communities but they are not the same. Both are important but their focus is different. Moderators keep the community safe and organized. They enforce rules, manage conversations and make sure discussions stay respectful. Think of them as the guardians of the space. Community Managers focus on growth and strategy. They shape the culture, build relationships with members and connect the community to the bigger goals. A healthy community needs both structure and vision and this distinction is important because great communities are not just moderated, they are intentionally led.
