The internet was built on open protocols: HTTP for data transfer SMTP for email But payments have never really been an integral part of the internet. That is precisely why initiatives such as x402 are so important. x402 @coinbase aims to do for payments what HTTP did for data, namely to create an open protocol that allows applications, APIs and AI agents to send and receive money just as easily as they send data. We are entering a world where - applications pay for APIs, agents pay for services, software trades with software and transactions take place without human intervention For this world to work, agents need: wallet → identity → payments → permissions → execution This is precisely the stack currently being built: @base.base.eth (agents, wallets, on-chain actions) x402 (the internet payments standard) The next economy is a ‘machine-to-machine’ economy.
