as someone who completely dgaf about gambling, i really dont want to see what shitcoins ppl r buying. honestly leaves a sour taste in my mouth being that warpcast(farcaster now?) is the default frontend and this is default behavior

I'm torn about bsky - so many fav artists/labels/devs moved there, posting wicked stuff, a refreshingly finance-free feed ...but then there's also an odd amount of negativity/complaining, and the reliance on ICANN domains feels like kicking the can down the road on decentralization

Many friends have already switched to bsky/mastodon too, and it's tricky to come up with the case for FC without going full cypherpunk and getting into decentralization nuance. How do you approach that chat?

I have not, tbh FC has already felt a bit crypto heavy to try even before the tickers. I know it's a bit of a chicken/egg problem, and I think it makes sense to nail the niche first, but the default ticker notifs felt like the niche would come at the cost of the rest

My guess would be something like 1% of new farcaster users have no interest in crypto, while maybe 80% of new bluesky users have no interest in crypto

For the existing user-base of crypto heads I can kind of follow. As a default for new users, anyone outside of our bubble, with zero interest in finance/memecoins? "FARTCOIN TRENDING" notif would be enough for instant uninstall, no?

I've since disabled "Trending onchain" notifications here and haven't had an issue since. What blew my mind was that when the feature was added, it was enabled for me by default, and I realised none of my friends would ever take FC seriously while that was the case

That by default, notifications spam you with memecoin tickers and trending coins like some casino. Makes it impossible to recommend to normy friends.

I think for dependently typed languages, you'd basically need the whole elaborator which is a large chunk of the compiler (idris' vim plugins work by using the compiler directly), but it sounds like maybe that's fine from what you're saying! I've only ever seen tree-sitter implementations that just use the JS grammar declaration thing to generate C code. I must be out of touch with what's actually possible!

My limited understanding of the issue is that in dependent-type systems, the semantic highlighting is type-directed, and that you can't really achieve proper semantic highlighting with just a grammar. You can still make roughly-nice-looking syntax highlighting, but it won't always correctly distinguish types and values.
