It’s interesting how people talk about a “huge gap” between Italian-born and total fertility rates when the actual difference is around 0.1. The real story is the long slide from 2.6 to 1.4 — and even Istat points out that foreign-born fertility is dropping quickly too.
The trend isn’t about one group vs another. It’s a broad, structural decline.
