PeerDAS in Fusaka is basically Ethereum’s first real sharding: the chain can agree on blocks without any single node seeing more than a tiny slice of the data, using client-side data availability sampling that’s robust even against 51% attacks.
It’s not “done” sharding yet—L2s get the big O(c²) win before L1, builders still need full data, and there’s no sharded mempool—but it’s a huge architectural milestone.
Next up: refine PeerDAS, use it to supercharge L2s, and once zkEVMs are truly ready, turn all that power inward to scale L1 gas as well. Massive respect to everyone who pushed this over the finish line.
