A mated pair of Sandhill Cranes calls together in unison shortly after sunrise. Known as a unison call or duet, each crane’s part of the duet is slightly different, so pairs can recognize each other by sound.

Burrowing owls love to dig down in the sand and dirt to take their baths! Sand baths absorb excess oil to help keep the feathers from becoming too greasy or matted. Taken shortly after sunrise, this young burrowing owlet's pupils were still large from not being exposed to the bright light of day yet.

A young eastern screech owlet peers down from the nest to see what is going on... a red-bellied woodpecker family had also taken residence in the same tree. I don’t know how these owls slept with all the noise from the woodpeckers.
