Happy Mother's Day
I don’t know what it’s like to be a mother. But I know it’s special.
Your children — nine months before they open their eyes — grow inside of you and are nurtured of you. You are their original provider.
When they first see light, they next seek you. You are no longer physically tied together, but the void of the cord is replaced with the bond of touch. Your heartbeat rings less loudly, but continues to bring comfort.
In the ongoing months and years, they clamor for you and you listen to them, they reach for you and you nourish them, they make mess and you clean for them.
They tire and you put them to sleep. On the rare or not-so-rare occasion they sleep too long, you even wake them.
They rest soundly because of you.
You smile with them, laugh with them, play with them. You are the foundation of their joy.
