One thing I wished I’d done when I was young was study Mandarin. As I’ve casted about before I have a love of languages and think I’m also quite good at them. From playing around with it a bit I believe that learning Mandarin would not insurmountable, despite its reputation as the hardest of languages. The problem is that it takes a tremendous amount of time and I’m at a stage of life where just I don’t have unlimited time. I have to think about work, finances, and family and I estimate it’d take at least 1500 hours of study to be at intermediate Mandarin level. It’d be such a cool thing to be able to do but I don’t know if I can commit. I also hate starting something I don’t finish. I’m confident I can finish Arabic and fix up my French with little difficulty which will make me intermediate in six languages alongside English, Turkish, Persian, and Urdu/Hindi. But one day I still hold out an outside hope I can make time to tackle Mandarin. It’d just be a very rewarding thing to know.
