was a codex hater for a while, every time i tried it it clearly produced inferior code to opus.
i think what i was missing is i was operating in a large, established codebase with years of patterns baked in. using both codex and cc now on a fresh project, codex is clearly better starting from nothing, and more autonomous.
still think claude wins if:
- project is already established
- you are willing to babysit the session
- more creative work (frontend, documentation)
