How do NFTs impact intellectual property rights?
NFTs create new challenges and opportunities for intellectual property (IP) rights. While NFTs verify ownership of a digital asset, they do not always transfer copyright or licensing rights. Artists can tokenize their work while retaining IP rights, but buyers may assume they own full usage rights. Some projects offer NFT holders commercial rights, like Bored Ape Yacht Club, allowing them to monetize their NFTs. However, copyright infringement remains an issue, as some NFTs are minted without the original creator’s consent. Legal frameworks are still evolving to address these complexities.
