Akash Network's AI-driven GPU demand surge exposes its tokenomics flaw: users pay providers directly in USDC, bypassing AKT. The token only serves staking/governance - a common DePIN pitfall. Unless AKT becomes mandatory for settlements (difficult given provider preferences for stablecoins), it won't capture value from compute growth. This mirrors Filecoin's challenges: creating token utility in permissionless markets where participants prefer stable pricing. Protocol-level payment mandates may be necessary.
