NYC, June 30th, 2026 Its seven o'clock on a sunny midsummer afternoon. This land that was frozen and covered in snow for the whole winter has now been almost entirely permeated by heat and light. The ere of exhausted youth that always permeates the city air is even stronger than usual. Leases, dreams, and keeping up appearences are in the air. Everyone I pass is way too cool for her hometown. All these ivory towers in one place. You can mitigate the loneliness by being around other towers, but that doesn't get you out of your own. Maybe it makes your own even more comfortable and lessens the likelihood of escaping it. But of course, no one comes to New York to escape the tower. They come to build it up higher.
