there are very few listening rooms that are both vibey and high performance. there are a few reasons for this, namely: - proper listening rooms are built from the ground up and retrofitting is futile to some extent e.g. the room might be the wrong shape - vibey establishments like bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. don't have the budget for acoustic consultants and custom construction - proper speaker and listening position placement require lots of free space, which is usually not possible in multipurpose spaces so, here is an example of a "real" listening room at Goodwin's in Waltham, MA but as you can see, it's not exactly an instagram wet dream. it's not ugly, either, but it is purpose built for two-channel listening. starting from the shape of the room itself, the dimensions are chosen to distribute the room modes over a broad range of frequencies. in a typical domestic or commercial space, certain frequencies will be over-emphasized (peaks) or under-emphasized (nulls).
