I believe this thesis is coming to fruition with increasing amounts of media coverage devoted to listening bars and hi-fi in general.
I somewhat resent this particular flavour of hi-fi though, which I would loosely describe as the Shop Full of Old Shit. basically a room full of speakers that need foam replaced, amps and tuners with blown caps, thin frayed cables, etc.
old gear can be really great but my feeling is that this type of shop sees hi-fi more as a fashion or decor statement than a way to listen with intention and care. are they even aware that you need to recap amps every ~15 years? do their clients even care or know the difference? probably not.
listen, I like vinyl as much as the next guy but if your speakers are old and busted then choosing an analog vs. digital source is the least of your problems.
