increasingly believe that the right time to launch a token is at the start of the project, not the end

I had an “aha” moment last night with my better half and compared early token launches for projects in development to a book advance. The stories of people not planning how to budget and manage any early liquidity long-term is akin to fringe writers who’d blow through book advances then panic into deadlines. There’s a correlation to be explored there.

Depends significantly on the relationship to how long of a development cycle the project has. Coins can draw attention, and the wrong kind if the dev cycle is very long

Underrated take, I think it’s prob more nuanced but can certainly be used as a strong growth tactic + let early believers eat which builds a cult

It’s a little similar to how Ben Thompson thinks about the value prop of subscriptions. It’s primarily about what the subscriber expects to receive going forward, not what they get from looking back.

Lots of variables but directionally agree with you for small team, software heavy, network based projects. This is what we are experimenting with in Footy App. $ SCORES can be purchased now (mint-burn w project owned liquidity) & the token floats in exactly 1 year from today as the World Cup gears up. More info here: https://app.revnet.eth.sucks/base:53 or (better for footy's fc rewards: fc-footy.vercel.app Teams still have to do a ton of fundraising but maybe someone will figure out an agent based capital allocator to fix that.
