I agree. Since change is the only thing you can count on, following a routine every day is the foundation to success because it provides structure and a reason to face the day in uncertain times. When life is going well, it's easy to maintain a natural momentum created by the built-in demands of what you do: Working, hobbies, having a social life etc. Unexpectedly losing a job or important relationship or any sudden change can throw your life into upheaval and leave you feeling destabilized to say the least. If you have established a daily routine, you will at least have something to help guide you through rough waters when you suddenly find yourself in unfamiliar territory.
I once heard someone say "The things you do every day will make or break you". I think the specifics of those "things" are important as well but on a basic level, just having a daily routine can be the thing that makes a difference.
