The Ethereum Foundation has released a new technical roadmap focused on the security of zero-knowledge proof-of-concept virtual machines (zkEVMs). The plan outlines three critical milestones by the end of 2026.
The change comes after reducing proof time from 16 minutes to 16 seconds and reducing costs by a factor of 45. However, the foundation cautioned that security remains a major challenge, with many zkEVMs operating on unproven mathematical guesses.
