I’m aware. Sadly I don’t know where the original photos are, these are 1024px which makes me think they’re downsized..

It was something, a special convergence. Not sure that I understood it at the time, though. Ben, Golan, Casey (left), me (right). We were so young! With hair! https://www.flickr.com/photos/watz/albums/72057594130242973/

I think it was this one, also if it was 2006 I was there, too. We did a big Processing workshop at Hangar?

Classic. I use this as an example talking about digital art - using overhead projectors makes this look low-tech and corny, but Golan and Zach had to hack up a finger tracking computer vision algo to get the gestures to work. That's way more complicated than most fxhash projects... 😍 100 $DEGEN

Brian Dettmer: Ram Skull, sculpture made from old MC tapes and audio tape Not sure which year, I took the picture in 2007. Brian is best known for his carved book sculptures, but I love this one. https://www.recyclart.org/skulls-made-out-of-upcycled-melted-cassette-tapes/

Hahaha, that's fair. I'm enjoying the visual hyper-saturation of these, I'd probably have to turn down the volume if I end up minting it. It's one of those series I end up doing for myself, then hope someone will ask me to do a show so I can finish it up as a project. (That's how Elysian Fields came to be.)

Thanks! It was for the NODE10 "abstrakt Abstrakt" show in Frankfurt. We showed one of his pieces where servos rotate steel rods that "slap" against the wall, making noise and leaving a visible mark over time. https://nodeforum.org/activities/festival/node10/exhibition/

Colossal has a nice feature on the sound artist Zimoun, who builds large-scale sound installations out of cheap, industrial materials and electronics (reminiscent of arte povera, somehow). I'm a big fan of Zimoun's distinct aesthetic, feel lucky to have curated him into a show in 2010. https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2025/05/zimoun-installations/

Exactly! Sometimes they get added after the fact, always funny to see the planner giving in to the desires of the user. I researched it today as an example for a colleague, she's dealing with a client that has an API that's proven so clumsy devs have been poaching the data points they're interested in from other endpoints. My argument was that it suggests a desire path, and take it as a strong signal.
