The biggest mistake people make is doing too much too soon and then getting sore or quitting. It's much better to start light and focus on doing the movements correctly. Good form is more important than heavy weight—it prevents injuries and makes the exercise work better.
Think of exercise in two main categories: strength training and cardio. Strength training (lifting weights, using machines, or bodyweight exercises like push-ups) builds muscle and makes your bones stronger. Cardio (like running on the treadmill, using the bike, or jumping rope) is great for your heart and lungs, and it helps with stamina.
Going to the gym can feel intimidating, but its main goal is simple: to make your body stronger and healthier. You don't need to be an expert or lift huge weights to get started. The most important thing is just to show up and be consistent.
What you do outside the gym is just as important. Your muscles don't grow while you're working out; they grow when you're resting and recovering. Getting enough sleep and drinking plenty of water are crucial parts of seeing progress.
