Exactly. I caught an early “mystery movie” screening. I didn’t see this firsthand, but I read that a lot of people in other such screenings saw people walking out midway through. I understand why. This is not a movie for everyone. But the people it actually is for will really enjoy it. If they can understand it.

If you watch the trailer you come away having no idea what the movie is about — just that it’s got a sort of sentimentality. I don’t want to post spoilers, so I’ll just say that it has an unorthodox story structure and sci-fi element that is intentionally confusing so that the moment of revelation hits hard.

‘Life of Chuck’ is a smart, surprising take on what it means to live… that will confuse the hell out of boomers. A shame, since the schmaltz should be up Boomer Alley. If you trust the process and pay attention, you’ll be rewarded with a unique, charming film that many have called “the whitest shit ever.”

Definitely. I was extremely fortunate to snag tickets to an early screening with director and cast Q&A after, but I think it’s already in wide release.

I missed that one, probably because it was a Netflix movie, which I tend to skip. I didn’t realize it was Wes Anderson or I might have watched it — and I might yet. I’m sure it has his hallmarks, though. At this point I don’t think Wes could make anything that doesn’t look like Wes. You should try Phoenician.

To me, Wes Anderson is hit or miss. ‘The Phoenician Scheme’ qualifies as the former. Benicio Del Toro is magnetic + enigmatic, and Mia Threapleton holds her own in their repartee. Yes, she’s Kate Winslet’s daughter, and you can’t unsee it once you know. Sit center cinema to savor the signature symmetry.

Also, let's pour a forty on the curb for Jaden Smith's acting career. ..... ... .. Ya know what? He'll be fine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RjWTEqJiMI

‘Karate Kid: Legends’ is fast, fun, and its NYC vibe feels legit—not like some bullshit backlot. Joshua Jackson steals the show til Jackie Chan & Ralph Macchio tag in. Only issue? Too many good guys. It's the bullies we love to hate that make these movies great, and there's too little screen-time left for them.

Meet your new Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I don’t envy child actors; especially as they step into such big and perfectly/previously cast shoes. But they’ll be overnight stars, so there’s that. Its a Faustian deal, kiddos. https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/harry-potter-hbo-series-casts-harry-ron-hermione-1236410755/

‘Dangerous Animals’ asks, “What if serial killer, but with sharks?” It also asks, “What if Jai Courtney, but movie doesn’t suck?” Both questions should have been addressed long ago — but better late than never. The answer? A fun and gory film that horror fans can really sink their teeth into.

Ugh. Please don’t sully the DeLorean by invoking that joke on wheels. There’s no such thing as a positive association with its creator - he whose name is best left unspoken.

At its best, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ is ‘Misery’ for dumb people. At its worst, it’s misery for smart people. Jenna Ortega is serviceable as a Gen Z Annie Wilkes, but self-serious star and co-writer Abel T. Weeknd too often invites unintentional laughs. Barry Keoghan? He just deserves better.

I don't know which makes the image feel more lost to a forgotten time: the medieval castle or Perkins.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning has to be seen on the biggest screen possible, or what’s the point? Like the previous film, it just won’t work on a small screen without super sized adrenaline shots to breakup the blah blah blah exposition. See it in a theater or not at all. And in IMAX? Wow.

This is how you tell me you watched a movie in your living room without telling me you watched a movie in your living room. The Brutalist was designed for the in-theater experience. But hey, some people put ketchup on their steak.

I just want to point out that Billy Bob wrote, directed, and starred in Sling Blade. I don't think he's recognized enough for being one of the great talents of a generation. Probably because his name is "Billy Bob".
