IMAX and dinosaurs are a match made in box office heaven, but Jurassic World: Rebirth didn’t get a U.S. IMAX release; the screens are still locked up by F1. Theaters in top-tier markets need to invest in a second IMAX screen. The spice must flow — as must the showtimes. https://apple.news/AA-9-2XFdSbGUsjRcMSaAEw

Go into ‘Oh, Hi!’ blind if possible. All you need to know is that it’s a dark romantic comedy that isn’t violent, but is plenty fucked up and funny. It’s a simple concept that is well executed and gives me faith that creativity and variety are returning to cinemas.

PSA for movie nerds -- especially in New York. Not all IMAX screens are created equal!

I was just being a smartass when I suggested that F1 is a sequel to Days of Thunder. Perhaps I should be a smartass about picking some Powerball numbers. 4-20-6-9-24-7 for all of you disgraceful degens playing at home. https://apple.news/AdW6-e1uzQ7uUgrTvjIf4_g

The Venn diagram overlap of people excited about Harry Styles and those who know what the fuck is going on in that scene is zero. Plus, the CGI sidekick looked like shit. I realize that Eternals is a deep cut, but I think it's the most egregious example of Marvel's hubris -- and Marvel is to blame for this trend.

Are post-credits scenes extinct? Jurassic World: Rebirth has none. Nor do many other recent franchise films. It started as a fun reward for fans but became bladder-busting punishment. Why? To see Harry Styles in Eternals? He’s not coming back. That movie sucked shit. Ignoring is less embarrassing than following thru.

Hot take! ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ is the best JP sequel. “But I liked Jurassic World!” says you and everyone you know. JW is a soulless $1B action movie with dinos. You know it, I know it, and Chris Pratt knows it. This one brings back JP’s horror vibe and OG JP writer David Koepp. That’s no coincidence.

If you haven't seen F1: THE MOVIE yet ... A. What's wrong with you? B. See it in IMAX, C. Try promo code "PITCREW" on Fandango for $7 off an IMAX ticket. I'm not sure if you have to be a Fandango member or not (but let me know). The movie is a real crowd pleaser and I have yet to hear anything negative about it.

When ‘The Running Man’ with Arnold Schwarzenegger came out in 1987, it depicted a futuristic dystopian America. Later this year, when the new one with Glen Powell comes out, it could already feel outdated. https://youtu.be/KD18ddeFuyM?si=15F5NjFXZwH_0Gx9

Reality TV is as natural as this star's skin pigmentation and as real as his business acumen. Which is to say, real enough for a quorum of American voters. Which is to say, the problem in a nutshell.

There's been a lot of talk about the unintended consequences of the most recent writer's strike. Most obviously, it allowed networks, studios, and streamers to pull back on content spend which meant that when writers were allowed to get back to work -- there wasn't much work to be had. But the strike that ushered the rise of reality is the 1.0 version of this. When writer's take their foot off of the pedal, buyers always hit the brakes on budgets -- and shit slows down permanently. Is it important for creatives to fight for residuals and fair payment? Of course. Are these strikes more damaging than rewarding? It kinda looks that way.

What do I think of 'Love Island'? I don't. Reality TV is a blight on society, and I blame two sources — viewers with low standards and the Writers Guild. "But Reality TV is unscripted!" First: bullshit. Second: the 2007–08 WGA strike didn’t just pry Pandora’s Box open — it shattered it. While writers were on the sidelines fighting for "new media" and "emerging platform" residuals, networks filled hours with cheap, reality trash that didn’t require real writers. Survivor propelled reality TV into primetime in 2000, but shows like The Apprentice, The Bachelor, and Project Runway gained network dominance by default in 2007–08. Okay, so writers position themselves for streaming. Great. In the meantime, viewers get addicted to the 7-Eleven pizza of TV — "reality," while many of the most promising scripted series are cancelled or critically injured (Heroes, Pushing Daisies, and my personal favorite cancelled-on-a-cliffhanger, Journeyman). Sea changes bring both good & bad. Was that strike worth it?
