The Pyatigorsk hippodrome is famous for its rich racing traditions and is a hippodrome of federal significance, of which there are only two in Russia (the second is Central Moscow). This is explained by the fact that most of the stud farms and horse breeding farms that deal with riding horse breeds are concentrated around Pyatigorsk.
