Recent empirical studies show that the computational resources consumed by Bitcoin mining today are equivalent to the economic scale of an entire country. If Bitcoin were a country, its electricity consumption would be between Argentina and Norway, raising the question: Is this "digital gold" really worth such a cost to the planet?
