The Substack point is spot on. It’s a great 'rich get richer' ecosystem, but it lacks the serendipity of early Twitter or even Farcaster's early days.
If the algorithm isn't forcing content down your throat, the discovery discovery feels broken; but if it is, the 'vibe' is ruined.
