I've always heard about how dangerous eating wild mushrooms can be, but people do it all over the world. How dangerous are wild mushrooms in reality? Ahh… wild mushroom picking. One of my absolute fondest memories of my childhood. My mother and I would often head out into the forest after rainy cool mornings to see what we could find. Mushrooms can grow unbelievably fast, and rainy cool weather can trigger a whole lot of mushrooms to come popping out of the ground, literally overnight; at least, the mushrooms that I’ll be talking about. On those weekend mornings, I would head out with mom, a small basket, and a paring knife. We would check under the pine trees and birch trees, and fill our basket more often than not. It was fun. In our household we rarely ate store-bought mushrooms. All of mom’s gravies, soups and stews were made with wild mushrooms from the forest. There were a lot of them.
