Honestly? I suck at keeping in touch—like, I’ll ghost for months. But here’s the thing: real friends don’t need daily check-ins.
1. I stopped apologizing for being “bad” at friendship. If they bail ’cause I forgot their cat’s birthday? Not my tribe.
2. I send dumb memes at 2 a.m. No pressure, just “saw this and thought of you.” Low effort, high joy.
3. When life explodes? I show up messy. Cried during our Zoom call? Cool. They’ve seen me eat cereal for dinner anyway.
4. I don’t force “deep talks.” Sometimes we just rant about bad bosses or binge-watch trash TV. Connection > perfection.
5. If they’re flaking? I call it out gently: “Hey, you alive?” No guilt trips. Either they care or they don’t—and that’s info I need.
Friendship’s not a chore. It’s laughing at inside jokes no one else gets, even if it’s been 3 years. You do you. They’ll meet you there—or they won’t.
