America is in the throes of violent authoritarianism, the Rams painfully lost a winnable game, and I had to spend another hour of my time figuring out why the hospital is billing me yet again, more than 6 months after my operation and after I already paid my balance in full... But after pressing the issue with them on the phone, they wiped the new charge "as a courtesy discount" so at least I got that going for me. How much money do you think hospitals -- and corporations in general -- earn* from individuals just by making them spend time jumping through hoops and obfuscating unnecessary charges? Imagine how much worse it will get under an increasingly authoritarian corporate police state... *see also: steal
