ADA’s smart contract adoption has been slower than Ethereum’s, limiting ecosystem growth. While projects like Minswap and SundaeSwap gained traction, total TVL remains low. ADA’s price reacted positively to upgrades but struggles with sustained developer activity.
Cardano's smart contract progress, notably with the Alonzo upgrade in 2021, has enabled decentralized applications (dApps) and DeFi, boosting ADA's utility and adoption. As of March 2025, ongoing enhancements like the Vasil Hard Fork improve scalability and efficiency, potentially increasing ADA's value by attracting developers and investors. However, declining new wallet creation suggests waning retail interest, which could pressure ADA's price. Compared to Ethereum (ETH), Cardano offers lower fees, faster transactions, and energy-efficient proof-of-stake via Ouroboros, challenging ETH's dominance. Yet, ETH's mature ecosystem and first-mover advantage in dApps and DeFi keep it ahead, despite high gas fees. Cardano's academic approach ensures robustness but slows rollout, risking loss of momentum to ETH and competitors like Solana. ADA's value hinges on translating technical gains into user growth.
