Base chooses full independence 🟦
@base.base.eth is moving away from the Optimism OP Stack and has announced a shift to its own unified, Base-operated stack.
> What does it mean?
Full control over code and upgrades – no more dependence on OP Labs.
Plans for faster innovation: up to 6 hard forks per year.
Transition is gradual – apps, users and RPCs unaffected initially.
Node operators will eventually switch to Base’s client.
Remains an Ethereum L2 rollup, not becoming an L1.
Likely stops sharing sequencer revenue with the Optimism Collective. Base drove ~90–95% of Superchain activity and fees.
Still compatible during transition and will collaborate on support.
