NFT mints frequently act as eligibility signals for airdrops because minting demonstrates early financial commitment and community participation. Projects use NFT ownership as on-chain proof for whitelist rights, governance badges, or retroactive reward criteria. Sometimes mints are intentionally structured so that holders of specific collections receive companion token drops, upgraded NFTs, or priority access to future distributions. Linking airdrops to mints helps capture passionate users and creates secondary-market incentives, but it also attracts speculators who flip immediately. To reduce opportunistic behavior, teams may add minimum holding windows, soulbound attestations, or staggered rewards. In short, NFT mints are a common and convenient mechanism to identify eligible users, though design choices determine whether the linkage encourages long-term engagement or short-term flips.
