Farcaster has changed a lot in the last couple of months. Here are some of my raw thoughts. From bots, people leaving, Farcaster being acquired, and now.. a Farcaster fork Here is what I noticed: - More bots than ever. I have a few posts in the /dev channel, that have a questionable amount of likes, and replies from accounts that seem to have been created on the spot. - Bot accounts are clearly using AI generated replies, showing enthusiasm about what I'm talking about. - Most of my close friends here, don't interact or engage with my posts (I'm ok with that), we mostly communicate via DMs - Some of my close friends are not that active anymore - There is less excitement compared to other times. /degen, cooler projects such as /outcasts, /animeoutcasts, /lp - OGs seem to be less active too, or this might be simply a problem with my feed, but used to see more OG activity on their projects, ideas, thoughts, etc. - More of the same mini-apps being released. Many of them doing the same and offering nothing new. /vibecoding being accessible to everyone can bring more low-quality apps that will likely die in a couple of weeks if it's not backed up or if it's a solo dev maintaining it. - Farcaster fork seems to be a solution to a problem that probably should have come later than earlier. A fork this early, with such low DAUs on Farcaster will likely create uncertainty, confusion and more amongst people that are less technical and potentially "newbies" that are more familiarised with web2 platforms, such as Instragram. I feel that this direction is taking away a lot of things that kept people here in first place. I've been less active, and more focused on writing technical dev posts, and have been treating Farcaster differently eversince. I'm engaging less on trading and embracing the first principles of blockchains and crypto. Failing to do this is a recipe for following the wrong principles, and increasing your chances of getting scammed, losing your money to "the next 100x token". My focus now is on purely building mobile apps, sharing projects that I build for fun, sharing personal growth, and writing lots more. How has Farcaster changed for you? What made you stay? How do you feel about the future of decentralised social?

Today I found out there's open source models from OpenAI and Gemini, that you can use with LM Studio. Using the usual prompt that I use for deep dive socratic learning, it's working really well locally. I use this prompt to force myself into thinking deeply, breaking down concepts, assumptions, into first principles. https://lmstudio.ai/models/openai/gpt-oss-20b
