this is a huge point of frustration for me the tuned-out consumerist "run it in the cloud" mindset has ruined home security by outsourcing it to amazon i run my own NVR and cameras at my house; remote access is not possible and i don't participate in any corporate surveillance programs i wish all my neighbors ran their own NVR - it takes no maintenance, has no monthly cost, and the installation process is pretty similar to a commercial camera; kits are at bestbuy for a few hundred bucks. instead, my suburban neighborhood has less privacy than a prison yard. i might as well live in a bank lobby for all the corporate surveillance devices installed in every house around me.
