What if Itachi Uchiha had not annihilated his clan? If he had chosen a different path, Konoha might have faced a civil war, as the conflict between the Uchiha and the village had reached a critical point. Perhaps his brother Sasuke would never have experienced the pain and desire for revenge that defined his path. Itachi could have become the leader of the clan, protecting its interests and working towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict. But his sacrifice, as tragic as it was, helped preserve the village and gave Sasuke a chance at a different future.
