A DAO, or Decentralized Autonomous Organization, is a digital collective that operates based on programmed rules encoded as a computer program, also referred to as a smart contract. It allows members to make decisions collectively, using blockchain technology to execute decisions without intermediaries. DAOs are transparent, immutable, and often governed by tokens, which give members voting rights and other privileges. They represent a shift towards decentralized governance and are key to many decentralized finance (DeFi) projects.
