base is reportedly shifting away from relying fully on the optimism op stack infrastructure and moving toward a more independent technical stack.
what this means:
-more control over upgrades
-faster iteration cycles
-less external dependency
-stronger long-term positioning as a standalone l2
this isn’t just a tech tweak.
it’s a signal.
base isn’t trying to be “another op stack chain.”
it’s building its own lane.
infrastructure independence = strategic maturity.
2026 might look very different for the l2 landscape.
