Much of the current discussion about a Rollup-centric roadmap centers around the growth in value of ETH and Ether in the presence of Rollup. L2s with user relationships like Base can charge a premium for their block space and return only a fraction of their revenue to Ether in the form of DA fees. By allowing Rollup to publish state data more frequently for rapid interoperability, Base can gain some revenue that would otherwise be lost to market makers and liquidity bridges. Although the amount of value that a better interoperable system can bring to the base layer depends entirely on the number of Rollups that need to communicate with each other. In cases where the Rollups cannot accommodate multiple applications, the value of the Base Layer accrues more clearly. Applications simply utilize the composability of the base layer to interact. Applications gain high throughput and control over their own space without sacrificing composability!

Seizure of cryptocurrency is the confiscation of crypto assets by law enforcement agencies, usually as part of a legal investigation. This may occur in cases of fraud, money laundering or other illegal activities.

Cryptocurrencies took a step closer to Mass Adoption in 2024 with the approval of the Bitcoin ETF and Ether ETF in the U.S. However, data on cryptocurrency inflows from specific cybercrime-related entities remains concerning, and Chainalysis previously released its Crypto Industry Security Report, which found that illegal transactions have been down overall compared to the same time period last year, but that two noteworthy illegal activity - stolen funds and ransomware - have been on the rise. Stolen funds in cryptocurrency thefts have increased year-over-year, doubling from $857 million to $1.58 billion as of the end of July. In addition, 2022 and 2023 saw a surge in cryptocurrency entities sanctioned by governments or international organizations.
