Base infrastructure explained without the noise
Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 built on the OP Stack. It moves execution off Ethereum while keeping settlement anchored to it.
Transactions are executed by a sequencer, then batched and posted to Ethereum as calldata. This is why Base feels fast and cheap: computation is off-chain, settlement remains on Ethereum.
The sequencer is centralized by design. Early L2s prioritize reliability and UX; decentralization only matters after scale is proven.
Security on Base is layered: execution trust today, Ethereum settlement, and a roadmap to decentralization.
The real risk is not usage, but transitions—upgrades, sequencer changes, governance shifts.
Timing will matter more than TPS.
