The Yueyaquan Oasis (Crescent Moon Spring) was a lifesaving point on the Silk Road. Oasis and Dunhuang city was situated at the junction of the two main branches of the Silk Road. Here, caravans would regroup, rest, and resupply before the most dangerous stage of the journey - crossing the desert or mountains. At the foot of the dunes and in Dunhuang itself, camel caravans laden with silk, spices, jade, and glass would stop to rest. The oasis is surrounded by dunes known as Mingsha Mountain, which means "singing sand mountain." When the wind blows or when people slide down the dunes, the sand emits a distinctive hum, resembling a howl, singing, or drumming. These immense formations are called mountains due to their impressive size, and they served as a landmark, helping travelers spot the lifesaving oasis from afar. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1X7rGdDdv83kilvJdDTnIgjD0Y1_vfJQ&ll=40.09747066845501%2C94.75876994296402&z=11
