A crypto user has lost 50 million dollars in an address poisoning scam. The attacker executed the theft by sending a small, insignificant dust transaction to the victims wallet. This transaction appeared in the victims public transaction history. The scammer crafted the sending address to look nearly identical to an address the victim trusted. When the victim later went to make a legitimate transaction, they mistakenly copied the fraudulent address from their history instead of the correct one. This led to the victim sending the enormous sum of 50 million dollars directly to the scammer's controlled address. This type of scam exploits user inattention to the full cryptographic address string, relying on visual deception within transaction logs.
