Homomorphic Processing Unit (HPU) built by @zama is a specialized hardware accelerator designed to significantly improve the performance of fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) computations. FHE allows data to be processed in an encrypted state, preserving confidentiality, but it is notoriously slow due to complex mathematical operations such as polynomial multiplication, modular arithmetic, and bootstrapping a process to refresh encrypted data during computation.
